I’m a singer… I’m a drummer… I’m the singing drummer…. But sometimes, I feel like Dr McCoy on Star Trek, “Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor not a….”.
I my case, it would be basement remodeler…
We are making forward progress finally. But I am pretty sure I am about two plus month out from having a practice space back, let alone a studio space to do videos…
And it won’t even be done at that point. It just won’t be the construction zone that it is now.
But, I’m still pressing on with Madwagon and Also singing for Monkey Bizness. I’m going to be playing drums for a set at a benefit here in Portland coming up called Monsters of Rock PDX. Great cause for a fellow musician who is dealing with ALS. It was an honor to be asked to play.
This weekend, I will be traveling down to Vegas with Rodney to hang out with the boys from Slaughter and hopefully talk about some future shows together.
So, it’s not like the only thing I’ve been doing is basement work… It just seems like it to me ;-).
I keep saying that the basement won’t be the death of me… I’ll finish it and die shortly after…
I will be doing some mic comparisons soon. I was using some old AKG D70 ME mics that I’ve had since I was 16. I haven’t used them for years and pulled them out to mic Rondey’s cab for our In Ear monitor system. I recorded a practice and… ugh, they were terrible. At least to my ear.
I sold those mics and bought some clone 57’s that are basically a 57 with a transformer mod. So far they are better than the D70’s. But I look forward to A-B testing with a real 57, just for giggles.
Well, that’s the update for now. I’ll be posting pics of Slaughter next week. Monsters Of Rock PDX is Nov 8th. Then we are up in Seattle in Nov 22nd, a break for the holidays, some recording, and back into it for some big shows in the coming year.
