My kingdom for a throne???

So, I have the red python kit down at the Madwagon shop and I have my dad’s 1972 Ludwig Vistalite kit back in our home studio.  I love both kits in their own way.  But the hardware for the Vistalite is old and pretty used up.

See, my dad was also a Singing Drummer.  Actually, my inspiration.  Though I feel I’m a drummer who can sing – he was more of a vocalist who could also play drums… Get the difference?

But in the 40 years my dad had his kit, he played out more weekends than not. That drumset was a utility vehicle.  It carried all the weight and worked hard… And the hardware and cases show.

After he passed, and I found myself alone for a long spell.  I sat and polished every inch of every drum. It was originally see-thru blue.  But after years of smoky bars and spilled drinks, no light could make it thru those old tubs. But with enough headlight cleaner and elbow grease – they are back!

…Except the hardware.

Let’s face it, nothing much from the 70’s made it this far.  And drum hardware from a working set… Let’s just say it’s seen better days.

So, I decided to replace a couple things. I had some extra stands, so cymbals weren’t a problem.  But the snare stand and the throne were a joke.

I went with a lightweight Gibraltar for the snare stand. It’s a bit lighter weight than I wanted, but it will do.  I did a quick review here.

The throne…. was another story.

I’ve been lugging around such heavy hardware for years, I was done. The next throne needed to be lighter.

.I tried out something that looked really nice on Amazon and we’ll reviewed. It didn’t pass my test. You can see why here.

So, since I’ve been a PDP player for the last 15-20 years, I decided to stop playing around.  The seat is a bit lightweight – but the base is super. I found the throne for the basement kit. You can check it out here.

So now, I just need to change out the heads and possibly gear up on some better overhead mics an we will be ready, finally, to get some singing drum cover videos done!!

Thanks for reading this far. Please leave a comment so I know you are there. And please check out more of my drum videos. I’d appreciate it!!
