So, an old gentleman once told me “Boy, you can make excuses… Or you can make videos”.
Oh wait – that was me talking to myself!
So, yep, we are still neck deep in a basement studio remodel. Making progress, but still have a long way to go. Spring is in full swing so we are trying to get the yard in shape again. Then there is work. And, oh yeah, then there is practice, recording, video shoots, gigging, interviewing, and general life on the MADWAGON. We have a pretty busy summer lined up – and hopefully another date supporting Mr Mark Slaughter again – but this time, much, much bigger 😉
Anyway – back to the video.
Yep, I can make excuses of being too busy, not having the right equipment, not having the right lighting, not having an inch of concrete dust on the Python kit…. yep – there are a lot of excuses on that list – but there are just too many good things happening, I have to share.
A while back, Mark at Cardinal Percussion and I were talking about snare heads. My go to head, the ProFlex 1 Coated (or, in the old days, the Medium, One Ply, Coated) has served me well for literally a decade or more. But then again, I wasn’t playing as much as I am now. And the style of music didn’t quite have the energy that Madwagon does…. So I tend to go through them fairly quickly.
But I LOVE the sound!!! I don’t want to sacrifice the sound that I love – but I may need a change. So, I called Mark, and he gave me some suggestions. He sent me a couple of my standard, ProFlex 1 heads, just in case, but he also sent me some ProFelx 1 Rev Dots, and a couple of the Eric Singer (of KISS? You heard of them right??) signature series.
I did a quick video with my tech and good buddy Steve Miller a while ago – and then life happened…. We installed a window, built a swimming pool sized egress well, started redoing the back yard, my son graduated from college (yay James!!) – but that meant that NOTHING was happening with telling people about it.
So, today, even though I had decided to ride 36 miles today on my bike to work and back, and even though I am still trying to work out our next show with Mr Slaughter…. I HAD to make a video.
This one is on the ProFlex 1 Rev Dot. It is ‘kinda’ like the old ‘Power Dot’ heads of old, but the ‘Dot’ is actually on the underside! Totally smooth on the top. Thicker sound than the old ProFlex 1 heads, but also, just as bright. I think I am going to like!!!
Check out the video. Don’t be too harsh, but leave your comments. I’m still figuring this video stuff out. Remember, I’m the guy that beats on things in the back of the stage, but I can carry a tune so they put a mic in front of me and I sing… This video stuff is kinda new to me 😉
Enjoy!
