Dante's – really nice folks

I’ve not had the opportunity to play in Dante’s since I moved back to Portland and restarted playing music. It was definitely on my short list of places to play in this town.
I got to play there last night with Jack Foolery.
I got to say, Mike and his staff down there are super nice and accommodating. The sound tech for the night was Will ( I think I have that right – terrible with names….). He was awesome! Most bands these days that come into smallish clubs, and really, the trend with bands these days in general, is to pack around the venerable 4 piece. And hey, if it was good enough for the fab four…. I played a four piece for a long time. But not any longer. The smaller kit that I use with Jack Foolery is still more mics and lines than what most house systems are ready to give. So many times, I’ve played in places and, unless you are the headliner, you are lucky to get a kick, snare, and one overhead…. But Will and Dante’s didn’t have any issues accommodating the Foolery kit. And went above and beyond.

Mike just asked to come in a bit early – no problem. Set up the kit on the side of the stage and give room for the other band that was there – and Steve and I started building.
It’s not much, a single kick, three up, two down, and about 10 cymbals? We used my mics and they lined up every drum. Then, Will added two overheads and a hi-hat mic. They sounded KILLER!
The bar staff there was super nice, Mike – the guy running the show, was great – even the pizza was great šŸ˜‰
Thanks Dante’s for a really good night and I look forward to bringing more and seeing more bands there!!
